GBP Categories
The primary and secondary business types you select on your Google Business Profile that decide which searches you're eligible to rank for.
Definition
GBP Categories are the single most powerful — and most commonly misused — setting on your Google Business Profile. Your primary category tells Google the one main thing you do (e.g., "Mexican Restaurant" vs. "Restaurant"), and the right choice can move you from invisible to #1 in the Map Pack. You can add up to 9 secondary categories for everything else you offer. Most owners pick a vague primary and bury their best one in the secondaries — leaving rankings on the table. Picking categories is part craft, part competitive research; we audit it on /pricing.php.
Why it matters in Miami
Miami is hyper-competitive in categories like "Cuban Restaurant," "Personal Injury Attorney," and "Roofing Contractor" — the difference between "Lawyer" and "Personal Injury Attorney" as primary can mean dozens of cases per month in Doral or Kendall.
Example
A Miami Beach skin clinic switches its primary category from "Medical Clinic" to "Medical Spa" and adds "Skin Care Clinic" and "Laser Hair Removal Service" as secondaries — Map Pack impressions jump 3.2x in 45 days.
